The Museum Village

A collection of small historical buildings which now house little shops (selling all types of wares), and the Esperance Visitor Centre. Located in the centre of town, the Museum Village is on the site of the town's old railway marshalling yards, and the buildings have been relocated from various different sites around Esperance. The Museum Village offers boutique shops with a difference, and comes alive on Sundays when markets are held.

Museum Village Market

Every second Sunday, and weekends during the summer school holidays, you'll find the Museum Village Markets. With a brilliant town central location, you can wander amongst the quaint, little historic buildings and experience a fantastic community atmosphere. Come hang out on the village green, listen to buskers, chat with the stall holders selling their wares (such as food, coffee, antiques, craft items, poultry and more), and soak up the sun. Come be a part of our local market culture .

Market Growers Market

Every second Saturday, the Scout Hall on The Esplanade comes alive with The Esperance Growers’ Market. With stalls manned by the growers and makers themselves, who often pick their crops the night before (and sometimes even that very morning), you’re certain to take home the freshest, seasonal produce in town. With an emphasis on sustainability, remember to take along your own bag or basket which you can look forward to filling with honey, eggs, olive oil, preserves, baked goods, fruits, vegetables, freshly cut flowers, or a variety of lovingly handcrafted wares.

Adventureland Park & Miniature Railway

All aboard for a fun steam train ride around the park! This miniature trail traverses ponds, a bridge, and a tunnel, providing thrills for younger family members. Located along The Esplanade within Adventureland Park, which features a giant ship and slide, a flying fox, a climbing whale, a basketball court, a fenced playground, an adventure playspace, ponds with ducks and a clock tower.

James St. Precinct

The James Street Precinct is a key part of the waterfront, providing direct beach access close to the town centre, as well as complementing the relaxing Esperance Foreshore. Within, there is also the James Street beach Enclosure which creates a safe, family and all abilities friendly swimming area, central to town. Encompassing the James Street Jetty, Ocean Slide and 50m Lap Pontoon, the area lends itself to the BBQ and shade areas, shower and toilet facilities, as well as the all abilities playground.

Skate Park & Pump Track

Integrated into the surrounding award winning foreshore development, and situated right in front of the ocean, the Esperance Skate Park and Pump Track really are something else. The skate structures are made up of a beginner to intermediate level flowing skate space with street and transition areas. The Esperance Skate Park appeals to different styles, as well as different skill levels, making it the ideal multigenerational activity and hang out hub.

Esperance Stonehenge

The Esperance Stonehenge is the only full size replica of the original Stonehenge in the UK. It appears as the original would have looked around 1950BC. It consists of 137 stones of Esperance Pink Granite that were all quarried locally less than 1km from the Stonehenge's final resting place. It is a truly amazing sight to behold and you'll find this marvel along Merivale Road, 18kms from the centre of town.

CIndy Poole Glass Artist - Gallery Experience

Visitors to Esperance should not miss a visit to Cindy Poole Glass Artist– 'Gallery Experience, 'Stop at this local and sustainability-focused eco-tourist attraction that celebrates Esperance's stunning beauty on your drive around the Great Ocean Drive—or take the 5-minute drive from town. Creative design and authentic craftsmanship converge within layers of glass to embody and celebrate the stunning natural beauty of the Western Australian environment and pay homage to nature, offering a unique way to see the world through glass.

Esperance Distillery Co

A father and son team, driven by a mutual love of high quality spirits, surfing and environmental conservation, launched in December 2020 as the smallest distillery in Australia operating with a 30L pot still. They've since grown from micro to small-batch and are producing unique gins using the unique botanicals the Southwest Region. Distilled using local native botanicals, their gin has been designed to showcase the internationally significant floral diversity of the Esperance biosphere. The collection has been distilled using many locally foraged or lovingly grown in our home garden.

The Bijou Theatre

Roughly translated as 'little gem' in French, the Bijou Theatre opened in 1896 and over the generations its been used for dances, meetings, agricultural shows, a cinema, and even a roller skating rink. In 1972 the Bijou Theatre was sold to the Esperance Theatre Guild. These days, the Bijou plays host to community theatre performances, and is regularly hired out for weddings and meetings.

Mermaid Leather

Experience Australia’s only specialist fish and shark leather tannery. Sit down and relax while you discover how one turns raw fish skins into a unique and exciting leather. Feel the sensual texture of Barramundi and Snapper, test the robust strength of Shark, and enjoy browsing through the Mermaid Leather studio which has many unique leather goods for sale.

Bird & Animal Park

Cuddle the cute rabbits and guinea pigs or handfeed the animals; Be amazed by the many colourful birds. Experience a day at the Bird & Animal Park with the whole family and enjoy a snack or drink at the cafe or on the verandah surrounded by bird life and the tranquility of shady trees.

Esperance Museum

Esperance has a rich maritime history and many of the exhibits feature this key part of the town's past. The Esperance Museum houses a brilliant collection of photographs, agricultural and marine machinery, antique furniture, pieces of the America’s first Space Station "Skylab", a Locomotive W919, and much more. The Esperance Museum was opened in 1976 by Orlando Stuart, a previous president of the Esperance Shire Council. The Museum Park was the town's original railway marshalling yards, and the main building, constructed soon after the turn of the 20th century, was the goods shed and office.

Lucky Bay Brewing

Lucky Bay Brewing makes hand crafted beers that are truly local. Coming from the heart of the barley producing region in Western Australia's south east, Esperance's Lucky Bay Brewing is part of the local farming community. Being local they select the seasons best produce from a local blokes paddock to bring you a brew you will want to savour to the last drop, just like our local beaches. Experience a taste of Esperance and enjoy some live music at Lucky Bay Brewing.

The Great Ocean Drive

Esperance's Great Ocean Drive is a 40 kilometre circular loop to explore by car that features a vast range of coastal elements such as stunning beaches, rocky headlands, small bays, steep cliffs and hidden ocean pools. There’s more than one way to experience the Great Ocean Drive. A cycle/walk path winds through the landscape, following the coast from the Esplanade all the way to Twilight Cove. It’s more than a quick drive around the coast, with so much to experience along the way. From snorkeling, surfing, swimming, bike riding, bush walking, whale watching (in season) to just taking in the amazing view, there is something for everyone to enjoy!

Esperance Mini Golf

You’ll find this 18-hole indoor mini golf course along The Esplanade, near the Adventure Land Park. Not only can you play a round of golf, you can hire the jalopy bikes and check out the gorgeous Esperance scenery in style, play some air hockey and have a snack at their new diner. Great Family fun for everyone!

Esperance Nyungar Aboriginal Art & Craft Gallery/Shop

Boasting unique works of art and craft, the Mudjar Aboriginal Corporation showcases indigenous pieces inspired by our often contrasting and colourful region. Located on Wood Street, the shop caters to a diverse customer need with sculptures, hand braided rugs, glassware, paintings and boomerangs.

Woody Island Eco Tours

An A-class Nature Reserve just 15km off the coast of Esperance, surrounded by pristine bushland and ocean, great for bushwalking, swimming, snorkeling, fishing or just relaxing. The island is ideally situated to provide the ultimate day trip adventure with a kiosk and Black Jack's Bar available for food and drinks.

Kepwari Walk Trail

A 3.6km interpretive trail winding through Melaleuca thickets and heath-lands, under Banksia canopies and over dune ridges. A short drive from Esperance town, the trail also features two bird hides for the keen observer, with Lake Wheatfield home to countless species. Kepwari is the local aboriginal word for 'place of moving water' and in winter you'll see why this name is so fitting.

Lake Monjingup Nature Reserve

The ideal spot for a picnic, with multiple walkways and trails - including a board walk on the lake, bird watching shelter and a hot spot for wildflowers in Spring! A short drive from town, add this to your "must explore" list when visiting Esperance.

Aunty Joan's Dolly Mix

Like walking backstage into an opulent dressing room, 'a cornucopia of swagged satin and velvet'. This museum is the passion of the late Aunty Joan (Duncan) Stewart, who started collecting dolls later in life. It was Joan's wish to donate the dolls to the Esperance community to make a permanent doll museum. If you need an escape, and want to feel like Alice in Wonderland, you can even organise a high tea in the space.

Cannery Arts Centre

Esperance's premier arts hub. Located on the stunning foreshore, it's historic building (originally built as a fish cannery) and natural surrounds offer the ideal location to experience all that the Esperance arts scene has to offer. The Cannery delivers a diverse program of exhibitions, arts based workshops across several disciplines for children and adults, and a variety of events such as documentary films, open mics, and large scale music events. The centre is comprised of the region's main exhibition space, art, print, pottery and music rooms, as well as a shop selling unique wares. The Cannery's garden and lookout are ideal spots to relax after taking in all the best of rural WA's arts scene.

Tanker Jetty and Jetty Headland Precinct

Opened in March 2021, the 415 metre Esperance Jetty was built for the Esperance community and visitors to enjoy. Fishing, walking, photography and diving are all accessible. Built primarily from concrete and steel, bent 1-10 forms the Esperance Jetty's 'heritage section' and has been designed and built to pay homage to the original Esperance Tanker Jetty's design. Elements from the old Tanker Jetty have also been included in the design, like the classic curvature of the jetty, diving platforms and shelters. Tanker Jetty timbers were used in the interpretive features of the Esperance Jetty, mixing the old with the new.
